How Tall Will My Child Be?

A child’s adult height can be estimated using the heights of both parents. This height calculator provides an estimated height for boys and girls using a standard parent-height formula. The actual result may vary because genetics, nutrition, health, and development also affect growth.

How Is a Child's Adult Height Calculated?

The mid-parental height formula estimates a child's potential adult height using both parents' heights. For boys, add 13 cm to the combined parental heights; for girls, subtract 13 cm. Divide the result by two to get the estimated adult height.

Example: If the father is 180 cm tall and the mother is 165 cm tall, the estimated adult height is about 179 cm for a boy and 166 cm for a girl.

What Factors Affect a Child's Adult Height?

Genetics plays an important role in determining adult height, but it is not the only factor. Nutrition, general health, hormones, sleep, and overall development can also influence a child's growth. Since a parent-height formula cannot account for all these factors, the estimated result may differ from the child's actual adult height.

How Accurate Is a Height Predictor?

A height predictor provides an approximate estimate of a child’s potential adult height, not an exact result. The mid-parental height method uses parents’ heights as a guide, but it cannot account for every factor that influences growth. For a better understanding of your child’s growth, a pediatrician can assess growth patterns over time.

This height calculator provides an estimate for informational purposes only. It cannot predict a child’s exact adult height or diagnose growth concerns. If you have questions about your child’s growth, consult a pediatrician.
